The HTC Dream or the T-Mobile G1 might have run a good run as the first Android phone in the market. Though it received mixed reviews, it was generally an awesome device since users are freely able to make apps for the device or have it available from the Android Market.
The G2 offers most of the functionality of the G1 but with better design, without the keyboard, and improved functionality. HTC positions the Magic for the younger market since they emphasize the device to be bold, and hot. They highlight five of the HTC Magic’s assets.
1. Android Powered - this means that the device will be able to run open source software that could mean lots of application available for users in the future. Also, the operating system itself is intuitive and the interface is very good for touchscreen use.
2. Intuitive Navigation - the Magic uses a trackball like the one on the Dream that enables fast user scrolling. Also, all of the needed buttons are on the lower portion of the device making them accessible.
3. Capture Images and Flicks - the built in 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera takes great shots than other more popular phones. The down side here though is the lack of flash that would prevent taking pictures and flicks during low light conditions.
4. Bold Design - the body of the Magic is really something to be praised. The curved design really is good to the hand and looks modern.
5. Google Experience Phone - this means that Google applications are built in such as mail, maps, calendar etc are included and with the 3.5g connectivity, these online dependent apps would be like it was on the phone itself.
To be released on Vodaphone in the European market, this is something to hold on until released in the US. For the meantime, let’s just stick with the G1.
